A central Florence four-star where the Arno views, the cocktail bar and the team carry the stay.
Best for / Tips to get it right
Best for
- Couples marking an occasion: 43% of reviews mention the restaurant and bar, and one guest booked a balcony room for a birthday treat and called the whole stay "magical."
- Food and drink first: the evening cocktail bar and the breakfast buffet both show up in 17 of 40 reviews, one guest calls the breakfast "fabulous."
- Design-minded travellers: guests describe "beautiful and elegant" rooms and a decor they call beautiful throughout, with the bar singled out as award winning.
- First-time visitors to Florence: 57% of reviews name the location, and guests list the Uffizi, Ponte Vecchio and Duomo as walkable from the door.
- Travellers without a car: the hotel sits on a quiet street on the Arno, everything worth seeing is on foot or a short cab ride.
Tips to get it right
- Ask for a river-view room when you book, guests call it well worth it and the balconies over the Arno are the ones they remember.
- If you are sensitive to street noise, request an interior room, a few reviews mention sound from the street out front.
- Plan your evening drink between 6pm and 1am, that is when the bar opens, several guests wished it opened earlier.
- Check what your rate covers before booking, breakfast and extras depend on the fare, confirm on the hotel's official site.
Why this one
Hotel Balestri sits on Piazza Mentana, right where the Arno bends past the Uffizi. Of the 40 reviews we read, 23 mention the location (57%). Guests keep naming the same walks, the Uffizi, Ponte Vecchio, Pitti Palace and the Duomo, all within easy reach on foot. The second thread is the team. 22 reviews (55%) call out the staff, one guest describes being helped home after a night out when no taxi would come, another calls them "extremely guest-oriented." Breakfast gets 17 mentions (43%) and the restaurant and bar another 17 (43%). The evening cocktail bar earns its own praise, one review calls the drinks "original" and the service "exceptional." Rooms facing the river are the ones guests remember, with balconies over the Arno. Some mention the bathroom is on the smaller side, which the same reviewer calls understandable.
What guests keep saying

The bit the hotel does not tell you
The hotel has a recently renovated flat in a nearby building, about ten minutes' walk away and two minutes from Ponte Vecchio, used when the main hotel is full. Guests say the hotel arranges a cab to get there. If you want the river-view balcony, say so at booking, some guests who booked a balcony room expected a floor-to-ceiling window and got a smaller one.
